Ramón y Cajal Researcher at the Biological Mission of Galicia (CSIC), associated with the CTFC.

His research addresses the environmental challenges that global change poses for society and the planet. He is particularly interested in the interactions between disturbance regimes, land-use change, and climate warming. His work demands a multi-scale perspective, enabling local action through tailored management strategies—such as fire management—within global initiatives like the European Green Deal. He employs and develops innovative techniques, including process-based fire succession models, remote sensing technologies (e.g., Google Earth Engine), ecological niche models, and spatial prioritization tools for conservation, such as MARXAN. Through pre- and postdoctoral stays in Switzerland, Canada, and Portugal, he has created a strong international network, collaborating with more than 150 co-authors from 10 different countries. To date, he has published more than 67 articles in SCI-indexed journals, including Nature, Science, Global Change Biology, and Frontiers in Ecology and the Environment. He has also published 12 articles in non-SCI journals and outreach publications.
